The Crafts of Pottery In Banyumulek

Banyumulek is the name of a village which is one of the tourist destinations in Lombok Island and visited by tourists, especially for tourists who have an interest in arts and crafts culture of Lombok Island. Banyumulek located in Kediri subdistrict, West Lombok, and is about 14 Kilometers from Mataram city center.

In this village was born many hands skilled and deft capable of making pottery with export quality, most of the villagers livelihood as artisans pottery. Initially they simply make various kinds of pottery or ceramics for use in daily life, such as a water bowl, a jug as a place to drink, and a garbage that serves as a garbage dump and others.

The name of Banyumulek began to be known along with the development of tourism on Lombok Island, and the villagers use it very well to make various types of pottery that can be used for decoration, such as garden ornaments or hotel room or home. So as to attract the attention of the tourists who come to visit Lombok Island, especially who want to look for typical souvenirs of Lombok Island. Interestingly in this tourist village we can see the process of making pottery, ranging from the beginning of the manufacture of clay mixed with water, then stepped on the material that has been mixed, and then the dough in shape and burn it on the straw.

If you visit Banyumulek village, you will be greeted with a green gate that reads " Pottery Craft centers Banyumulek " here you can see the unique landscape of schools and government offices are decorated with large earthenware pottery at the fence wall. In this village you can also learn how the process of making pottery by visiting some of the craftsmen who opened the course for visitors who want to know in detail the making of pottery. Almost all tour operators offer excursions to Banyumulek as local tourists visiting in Lombok. So it is not wrong if Banyumulek become tourism destination in Lombok island that  wass obliged to visit.
