Traveling is so much fun, moreover if we traveled to a place that gives a beautiful natural scenery and refreshes. Especially in Lombok island it was very famous for it Beach Tourism and Mount Rinjani which was served a superb view with a waterfall at the foot of the mountain, precisely in Senaru village, Bayan subdistrict, North Lombok. There are two waterfalls around the foot of Mount Rinjani, namely Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep Waterfall.

The stream of Sendang Gile waterfall flowing past the cliff with a height of 30 meters and covered by the green foliage and ferns. The flows of waterfall over the cliff together and re-covered the hedge surrounding area makes a fine mist. Sometimes you will see a rainbow arches near from the waterfall. Access from the entrance to Sendang Gile Waterfall was pretty easy, just a 15 minute walk through the steps that have been well-organized and passed several huts to rest. Just before the road down to Sendang Gile, there is a small path to the right which is the road leading to Tiu Kelep Waterfall which is a path. This waterfall is quite high, which is about 45 meters. The flow is large enough and heavy enough cause it has a big waves. If you do not want to get wet, you should wear a waterproof jacket. Not far from there, you can see a large tree that grows on the surface of the cliff. Tiu Kelep position is more hidden than Sendang Gile waterfall, and will take about 45 minutes away. After the trail, we will find the stairs to the bridge. Actually, you will feel like being in the woods because we will cross the river in between the lush of trees. Your eyes will be spoiled with the beautiful scenery and the sound of a waterfall. Under Tiu Kelep waterfall, there is a cold pool, you can do water activities such as swim accompanied with the mountain atmosphere. There is no locker rooms or food and beverage vendors at Tiu Kelep, so you should bring your own lunch.

According to the local people, The named of Tiu Kelep was taken from the Sasak language means "Swimming Fly". While Sendang Gile name was taken from a local legend. The legend tells about a prince who is being chased by a lion mad. The prince then hide behind the waterfall to avoid the pursuit of the lion. Finally, the waterfall was called Sendang Gile. Both of the waterfall was believed to cure various diseases, as well as making look younger. Local people also believe that the flow of waterfall would be even greater if the people around speak louder.

If you visit these waterfalls, do not hesitate to use the services of a tour guide in order not to stray. To reach Sendang Gile waterfall that was available paths track, but there is no tracking path toward Tiu Kelep waterfall. By using the services of a guide and made Ă¢€‹Ă¢€‹prior arrangements, upon completion visit Tiu Kelep waterfall, you will be invited to adventure past the different tracks from the previous track, by perambulating the tunnel which is flow a unique cold water will surely make your trip enjoyable and unforgettable.

How to get there

Administratively, Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls located in Senaru village, about 2.5 hours drive from Mataram city. Given the considerable distance away, it is recommended that you use a private vehicle to visit these amazing waterfalls. To go to Senaru village from Mataram, you can go through Pusuk and Senggigi, which will takes a quite long journey.

  • Through Pusuk, If you do travel through Pusuk, you will see the scenery of rice fields and green mountains around you, we will travel through the winding road up past the peak of pusuk, here you will see a monkey habitat along the road (Pusuk Pass).

  • Through Senggigi, If you do travel through Senggigi, it will take a longer time due to greater distance if we compared to Pusuk Pass, but the line was offering scenic journey along the coast, ranging from Meninting beach, Batu Bolong, Senggigi, Kerandangan, Malimbu, until the scenery of three dykes (Gili Trawangan, Air, and Meno) are located to the westside of Lombok Island.
